Caden's Afghan

.
I finished Caden's baby afghan on Sunday night. Caden is Renee's baby boy who was born right before President's Day. Excellent timing on his part. He will always have a 3-day weekend to celebrate his birthday. The afghan is knit in Plymouth Encore Color #1033 and Colorspun #7129. I didn't want a baby-ish pale blue or green, but hopefully this isn't too dark for a newborn. The afghan was easy and fast to knit using double strands on large needles. If you want the pattern, I would love to share it with you. Just ask.

Sweater in a Tub

.
So I went back to the tub to take this picture of Give The People What They Want from Yarn Girls Guide. This actually wasn't the original sweater in a tub [that was Marilyn, already posted] but this one is OK too. Don't know why I put the plant there. The sweater is knit in Filatura di Crosa Clara in color #24. The scarf is done in garter stitch using Trendsetter Flora.

This cardigan has shrunk quite a bit. Before I washed it, it hung down almost to my knees and the sleeve cuffs were covering my hands. Put it in the wash and voy-la, it's the right size. I showed it to my brother's girlfriend and she promptly started on her own. Kinda kewl.

Your Basic Bag

.
What self-respecting girl doesn't have a zillion purses and bags? Although I've knit mostly sweaters, I am always on the lookout for the perfect knitted bag. This one is from Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch. It has a lot of significance for me because I knit it during a very stressful time in my life. I had just torn my left ACL in a skiing accident and was limping around with a brace and crutches. Then a week after that, my boyfriend was in an accident while he was snowmobiling. I flew across the country to be with him in the hospital for 3 weeks. This was all I had to work on, bedside, while he recuperated. We're all better now and the purse turned out perfect. 3XChic

3XChic Variation

I know, I know...it needs blocking! At least the sleeves. This one is from Knitty, one of Bonne Marie Burns' designs, and my latest endeavor although a variation of the original pattern. It's not my best but not bad considering I just cast on and, um...knit [do you see a theme developing?]

I've gotten compliments but the yarn style bothers me the most - the zigzag against the vertical columns of the rib is not flattering on my little body. It is Dance by Artful Yarns.

Marilyn

Marilyn

Ahh. My favorite so far. Marilyn is the cover sweater from the Spring 2004 issue of Interweave Knits. I am so pleased with it! It makes me feel girly and luxurious. I want to curl my hair, wear pink lipstick and prance around in high heels. I used the exact yarn from the pattern - Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Super Chunky in pink.

Yarn Girls Mix

Yarn Girls Mix

I am really amazed how well this sweater turned out. Yet another situation where I changed the pattern. Actually 2 patterns. This is a combo of the Funnel Sweater and Basic Cardigan from Yarn Girls Guide. Don't ask me how...I just kept flipping between the two patterns when it seemed like a good idea. I had problems with one of the sleeves because I wasn't paying attention to the armhole length and had to frog and reknit it completely. However...I do love this sweater. It is great in the winter - super warm. Only problem is, I live in Northern California on the edge of the Central Valley where the temps don't go below 50 in the winter. Knit with double strands in Lion Brand Wool Ease in color Wood.

Einstein

Einstein

Einstein from Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch. Because I'm a small person, I decided to knit the largest size of the kid's pattern and added the collar. Knitting it was a easy, albeit slightly tedious, but I definitely appreciated not having to seam anything except the sleeves. A note about those - I should've measured around my wrist and forearm because the sleeves are a little close. The yarn is Lion Brand Jiffy in El Paso. The flash really highlighted the colors...the sweater is more muted than this and looks great with both jeans and khakis.
